The Central Military Hospital of Vietnam, also known as CMHV, is located on Nguyen Huu Tho Street, Hanoi. It was founded in 1954 and has been the most prestigious hospital in the country ever since.

In 1891, it moved to its present location on Nguyen Trai Street (formerly called Quai de l’Indochine) in District 3. The new building opened on December 12, 1893, with an area of 2 hectares and cost about 1 million francs to construct.
In 1904, it became known as “Hospital Saint Joseph” after its patron saint who had been canonized that year by Pope Leo XIII.
