Kosovo is located in the Balkan Peninsula. Kosovo is one of the poorest countries in Europe. The health system of Kosovo is in need of improvement, as it has not been able to provide adequate care for its people.

The main position of health sector in Kosovo’s economy is that it represents around a quarter of GDP and employs almost half the workforce.

Kosovo’s health system has been improving over the recent years, with major progress made during the last decade. The country currently ranks 72nd out of 190 countries according to World Health Organization’s (WHO) ranking on health outcomes, which places it among high-income countries like Canada and France.

1.Central Hospital:

Central Hospital of Kosovo is the most important public hospital in Kosovo and it provides health care services to the people of Kosovo. It is located in the center of Pristina, which is the capital city of Kosovo. The hospital has a total area of 5,000 square meters and it has two main buildings that are divided into three departments.

The Central Hospital of Kosovo has been operating since 1949. It was founded by a group of doctors with health care as their main goal for the country.

The hospital offers medical services such as emergency treatment, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics and traumatology, among others. It also offers dental services such as dental surgery and dentistry for children.

The Central Hospital of Kosovo also has an outpatient clinic that provides medical services to patients without an appointment at any time during the day or night.

2.Kosovar Eye Hospital:

The Kosovar Eye Hospital of Kosovo has been providing quality eye care in the country since 2003. The hospital is one of the largest and leading health facilities in Kosovo.

General Hospital “Dr. Lazim Hajdari”is located in the city center of Pristina, Kosovo. It is a public hospital and is operated by Kosovar Ministry of Health.

The Drenica Hospital offers medical services for the entire region, with a branch in Mitrovica and another one in Peja.

7.Trepča Hospital :

Trepča Hospital is one of the largest and most modern hospitals in Kosovo. It is located in the city of Mitrovica, which is the capital of Kosovo.

Trepča Hospital has a total area of 3,000 square meters and consists of 8 departments. It has a capacity to accommodate 1,000 patients.

The hospital offers 24-hour emergency services and outpatient clinics. The hospital also provides specialized services for cancer treatment, intensive care unit, surgery center for cardiac operations, pediatric care and obstetrics.

The hospital offers free parking for patients and visitors who are using public transportation or driving their own cars to Trepca Hospital from Mitrovica city center or from other cities in Kosovo.

8.Mitrovica Hospital :

Mitrovica Hospital is the leading health institution in Kosovo. It is the only hospital with a wide range of medical services and a state-of-the-art equipment.

Mitrovica Hospital has been recognized by many international organizations including WHO, OMS, and Medicins Sans Frontieres. The hospital has also received awards such as “Best Health Institution” in Kosovo and “Best Hospital” in Kosovo.

The hospital has an area of approximately 3,500 square meters, with capacity for patients from all over the country and from neighboring countries too.

9.Ferizaj Hospital:

Ferizaj is a city of Kosovo that is located in the south-western part of the country. It has a population of approximately 100 thousand people and it is surrounded by mountains on all sides. The city has a long history, with archaeological findings dating back to the Neolithic period.

Ferizaj Hospital was founded in 1948 and it was initially a military hospital that provided medical services to the local population. However, it became an independent hospital in 1962. In addition to its own medical services, Ferizaj Hospital provides other health services such as outpatient clinics, dentistry and physiotherapy departments.

Mother Theresa Children’s Hospital of Kosovo has been participating in the European Union funded project “Improving patient safety through quality improvement” since 2016.

Kusturica Children’s Hospital of Kosovo is a public hospital located in the city of Pristina, Kosovo. It was founded in 2008.

It has a total capacity for more than 300 beds and it is equipped with modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. The hospital provides specialized care for patients with congenital heart diseases, neonatal disorders, brain tumors, bone marrow transplantation, etc.

The hospital has its own outpatient clinic where it offers medical consultations to parents or guardians who are not able to visit their child at the hospital due to work or other reasons. The outpatient clinic also offers immunizations and blood tests for children aged 6 months-18 years old.

17.University Hospital “Kosovska:

University Hospital “Kosovska” is one of the most modern hospitals in Kosovo. It is located in the capital city of Pristina, which has a population of about 500,000 people.

The hospital has a total bed capacity of 1,000 and it serves as a referral center for more than 1,500 patients daily. The hospital also provides general medical services including surgery and ophthalmology.

The hospital has state-of-the-art facilities like the Center for Biomedical Research, an outpatient clinic with 10 examination rooms and eight beds; and a pharmacy with 22 sales points.

18.Military Hospital “Dragodan”:

Dragodan is the biggest and most modern military hospital in Kosovo. It was built in 2013 and has more than 200 beds. It is located in the center of Pristina, a city with a population of about 300,000 people.

The main building is an eight-story building with a capacity of 200 beds and 23 medical rooms, including one for emergency cases. There are also two operating theaters, four intensive care units, one trauma unit and one maternity ward.

The hospital staff includes over 100 doctors who have been trained at the best medical schools in Kosovo and abroad; over 600 nurses; over 200 paramedics; 40 psychologists; 70 administrative staff members; 20 senior officers; while there are also 10 social workers on hand to provide assistance to patients’ families.

19.”Dajti” National Police Hospital:

“Dajti” National Police Hospital of Kosovo is located in the central part of Kosovo city, Pristina. It was founded in 1990 and covers an area of approximately 10.000 square meters.

The hospital has a capacity for up to 200 patients. In total, there are about 400 employees working at the hospital. The hospital has a private clinic with eight beds and also provides health services for the people living in nearby areas. The hospital also consists of an emergency room, intensive care unit, operating theater, laboratory and pharmacy.

The Dajti National Police Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Kosovo with modern facilities and state-of-the-art equipment that provide high quality medical care to patients from all over the world.

20.”Aleksander Thaci” General Hospital:

The hospital is located in the center of Pristina, the capital city of Kosovo. The hospital has a capacity of 300 beds and it serves as a referral center for most health-related services in Kosovo.

Aleksander Thaci General Hospital of Kosovo is a public hospital that provides healthcare services to the population of Kosovo. It was founded on November 1, 1957 and it is managed by the Ministry of Health. The Hospital has 300 beds and it also offers outpatient services and emergency care.

The hospital is located in the center of Pristina, the capital city of Kosovo. It occupies an area with an area of approximately 20 hectares, which includes parking spaces for cars as well as green areas around it.
