The foundation is registered as a non-profit organization under the name “Kanton Hospital Foundation” with registration number 2314 and was founded by Dr. Ijaz Ahmad Khan and his wife Mrs. Rizwana Khan who are also members of the board at present time.

The hospital provides health care services to all people in Kiribati without discrimination as well as for international visitors who come to visit this country.

The main building of Taroarenga Memorial Hospital-Tarawa was built on an area of 3 hectares, which makes it one of the largest hospitals in the Pacific region with a capacity for 350 beds.
