The health system in Fiji is not as developed as other countries. The country has one hospital that was built in the 1950s and a health insurance program that covers only about half of the population.

The position of health in Fiji is still quite low on the global scale. The country has a large percentage of people living below the poverty line, which leads to poor health outcomes and high mortality rates.

1.Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lautoka:

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lautoka is a hospital in the Republic of Fiji. It has been providing quality healthcare services since its inception in 1883.

The hospital was established by Sir Arthur Gordon and named after Queen Elizabeth II as a gesture of gratitude for her support during World War II. The hospital is located on a hilltop on the main street of Lautoka, overlooking the city of Lautoka and the Pacific Ocean. The facility includes an emergency department, operating theatres, intensive care units, medical wards and diagnostic laboratories.

It has been accredited by Joint Commission International since 2004 and is also part of Fiji’s Ministry of Health network.

2.Pacific International Hospital, Suva:

Pacific International Hospital is the largest hospital in Fiji. It is located in Suva, the capital city of Fiji. The hospital has a total of 837 beds and employs more than 2300 people.

Pacific International Hospital is a government-owned hospital with a lot of facilities available to its patients and visitors. It has a helipad, underground parking, and many other modern amenities that make it one of the best hospitals in the world.

Pacific International Hospital opened its doors on March 18th 1982 and was originally known as Suva General Hospital until it changed its name to Pacific International Hospital in 2005

The hospital has eight wards for patients who are recovering from surgery, three operating theaters for complex surgeries, six intensive care units (ICUs), a 12-bedded pediatric ICU, four emergency rooms (ERs), and two birthing centers with 16 labor rooms each

3.Viti Levu Provincial General Hospital:

The Viti Levu Provincial General Hospital in Fiji is a public hospital that was established in 1957. It is the main hospital of the province and has a capacity of over 300 beds. It also has a 24-hour emergency ward, outpatient clinic, laboratory, and radiology services.

The hospital provides medical services to the people of Viti Levu Province as well as to other parts of Fiji. The hospital’s services are free for residents of Viti Levu Province but they charge fees for out-of-province patients.

4.Navua General Hospital:

Navua General Hospital is a public hospital in Fiji. It is the largest hospital in the country with a total of 446 beds. The hospital offers services to patients from the whole of Fiji and has an emergency department that can accommodate up to 100 patients at a time.

Navua General Hospital has recently undergone renovations, including building new wards and refurbishing existing ones, as well as expanding its facilities for better patient care and comfort.

The hospital also has two operating theaters, one for general surgery and one for orthopedics, along with an outpatient clinic.

5.Labasa General Hospital:

The General Hospital in Labasa, Fiji is a public hospital that provides free healthcare services to the people of Labasa and surrounding areas.

The General Hospital has been providing free healthcare services since it was established in 1952. It is located on the corner of Sir George and Wainibuka Streets, Labasa.

The General Hospital has a total of 22 beds, with 10 for in-patients and 12 for out-patients. It also has an emergency department which is open 24 hours a day. The hospital also provides medical care for people who are not residents of Labasa but need treatment while visiting the island.

The General Hospital offers many facilities to its patients as it is one of the most modern hospitals in Fiji with state-of-the-art equipment and technology like CT scans, MRI scans, ultrasound machines, etc.

6.Nadroga General Hospital:

Nadroga General Hospital is a public hospital in Nadroga, Fiji. It has been operating since 1997.

Nadroga General Hospital is located on the main island of Viti Levu and is accessible by bus, taxi or private vehicle. The hospital has an emergency department, outpatient clinic and inpatient wards.

The hospital provides services to the rural communities of Nadroga, Lomaiviti and Lau. It also provides services to people living in the cities of Suva and Nadi.

Nadroga General Hospital has a total bed capacity of 686 with 12 wards, four operating theatres, one day surgery unit and one intensive care unit. It also has an ambulance service with three ambulances for transport to the different parts of Fiji as well as overseas destinations like Australia and New Zealand.

7.Prince Charles Hospital:

The Prince Charles Hospital in Fiji is one of the largest hospitals in the country. The hospital has more than 100 beds and has a capacity to accommodate up to 500 patients at a time.

The hospital was founded in 1881 by British missionaries and the first medical staff was composed of four doctors, three nurses, and four orderlies. The hospital’s original building was built from coral lime and timber with corrugated iron roofing on the ground floor and shingled roofing on the first floor.

The Prince Charles Hospital is located on a hill overlooking Suva City. It is approximately 1 kilometre from Suva’s Central Business District

8.National Referral Hospital (NRH):

National Referral Hospital (NRH) is a public hospital in Suva, Fiji. It was established in 1942. The hospital has a capacity of 600 beds and provides health care to the people of Fiji.

The NRH is located on the corner of Kadavu and Labasa Roads, next to the Tuivuna River on Suva’s western outskirts. The hospital is accessible by bus or taxi from all parts of the city.

National Referral Hospital has a variety of facilities including an emergency room, operating theater, outpatient clinics, radiology department, laboratory and pharmacy services.

9.National Orthopaedic Hospital:

National Orthopaedic Hospital in Fiji is the largest hospital in Fiji. It is located on the main island of Viti Levu and has been operational since 1946.

The hospital offers a wide range of services, including trauma care, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, dentistry and urology.

National Orthopaedic Hospital in Fiji also provides outpatient services for patients who need more specialized treatment for conditions such as back pain, spinal cord injury and stroke.

Suva General Hospital is a public hospital in Suva, Fiji. It has been serving the people of Fiji since 1951.

The hospital was established in 1951 and it was originally called the Suva Hospital of the British Colonial Government. The first building was completed in 1952 and it was located on a 3-acre site at the corner of Wright and Fijian Roads.

12.FBCI Hospital:

FBCI Hospital in Fiji is a private hospital in the capital city of Suva. It was established in 1998 and is now one of the largest hospitals in Fiji.

FBCI Hospital has state-of-the-art facilities, including an emergency room, a maternity ward, and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). It also has its own blood bank to ensure that patients have access to safe blood products.

The hospital also has an on-site laboratory with all the latest equipment for testing patients’ blood. There are also two operating theaters on site and a CT scanner that can be used by doctors or nurses at any time.

Lautoka General Hospital is one of the most important hospitals in Fiji. It is a public hospital that provides health care for patients from all across the country. It has a state-of-the-art emergency department and intensive care unit, among others.

In Lautoka General Hospital, they have many facilities they offer to their patients and visitors. They have a pharmacy, X-ray facility, laboratory, physiotherapy clinic, and dental clinic among other services.

Lautoka General Hospital also has a 24/7 emergency department that provides medical services to those who can’t get an appointment with their doctor or dentist on time.

19.Ba Province General hospital:

Ba Province General Hospital is a public hospital in Fiji. It is located at the Ba Provincial Council Building in Ba Province, Central Division, on the main island of Vanua Levu.

Ba Province General Hospital provides healthcare services to patients from all over Fiji. The hospital has a capacity of 300 beds and offers medical services such as general surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and dentistry.

The hospital also has an outpatient clinic that provides medical care to patients who do not require admission into the hospital. There are also facilities for physiotherapy and rehabilitation which provide a range of treatments for musculoskeletal disorders such as arthritis or spinal cord injuries.

The most recent addition to the hospital’s facilities is an ultrasound unit which was opened in February 2018. This unit allows for diagnosis without having to go through the time-consuming process of going through urine samples or other invasive procedures required by other hospitals

20.Nausori Provincial hospital:

The Fiji National Hospital is located in Nausori, Fiji. It’s a government-owned hospital that provides free health care to the people of Fiji.

The hospital has a total of two operating theatres, one emergency department and one intensive care unit. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day and the intensive care unit is open 24 hours a day on weekends.

The hospital also has an outpatient department that provides services to patients who are not admitted into the hospital itself. The outpatient department is open from 8am to 6pm daily except for Saturdays and Sundays when it opens from 8am to 5pm.
