Somalia is one of the poorest and most fragile countries in the world. It has a low life expectancy, high maternal mortality, and limited access to safe water and sanitation. The country also faces a high risk of natural disasters such as droughts, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, and cyclones.

The health system in Somalia is funded by international donors who provide financial support for the government’s budget for health care services. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are about 1.1 doctors per 10 000 people in Somalia which is very low compared to other African countries with an average of 3 doctors per 10 000 people.

1. Al-Shifa Hospital:

The Al-Shifa Hospital is located in Mogadishu, Somalia. The hospital is the largest of its kind in the country.

The hospital was founded by a Somali doctor named Dr. Abdulkadir Sheikh Dirie, who had studied medicine in India and the United States. In 1977, he returned to Somalia and began to work at an existing hospital near Mogadishu’s seaport. Dr. Dirie wanted to build a new hospital that could better serve all Somalis and so he founded Al-Shifa Hospital on January 1, 1978, with help from his friends and family members.

2. Red Cross Hospital:

The Red Cross Hospital in Somalia has been providing health care to the people of Somalia for decades. It was established in the year 1955 by the International Committee of the Red Cross. The hospital is located on Mogadishu’s Airport Road and offers a range of medical services like general surgery, orthopedics, radiology, and rehabilitation services.

The hospital also has an emergency room and a maternity ward. The maternity ward is equipped with an incubator to ensure that premature babies are given enough care.

3. Medina Private Hospital:

The Medina Private Hospital of Somalia is a private hospital in the Somali capital city, Mogadishu. It was established by the Medina Foundation in

response to the growing demand for healthcare services in Somalia. The hospital is located on Airport Road and it offers a full range of medical and surgical services.

4. Baidoa Private Hospital:

Baidoa Private Hospital is located in Baidoa, Somalia. The hospital is the first private hospital in the country and it has been operational since 2011. It is a modern structure with a total of 12 wards and can accommodate up to 200 patients at any given time.

– Radiology unit with CT scan, ultrasound, MRI, and X-ray capabilities

It has an emergency room, an outpatient department, a laboratory, and x-ray services. The hospital also has wards for general medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics.

The hospital was established in 1983 by the Somali government to provide medical services to the people of Baidoa and its surrounding areas. It was closed down in 1991 due to a lack of staff and equipment but reopened in 2002 following an agreement with UNICEF which provided it with funds for refurbishment and reconstruction.

The Hospital was built with Soviet Union assistance to address health care needs in Somalia’s capital city.

The Elman Peace Support Hospital is a hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia that provides emergency and basic health care services. It was founded in 2012 by the Somali Red Crescent Society and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The hospital has two main buildings with a total of 5 wards and an outpatient department.

The first building contains a ward for surgery, obstetrics, and gynecology, a ward for general medicine patients, and an outpatient department. The second building has three wards: one for intensive care, one for medical emergencies, and one for surgery patients.

The hospital has a total bed capacity of 150 beds and offers a range of medical services including general surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pediatrics, cardiology, emergency medicine, and psychiatry.

The General Hospital of Somalia is located in the Dadaab Refugee Camp, which is situated in Garissa County, Kenya. The hospital was established in 1991 and it is the only hospital serving refugees.

The General Hospital of Somalia has a capacity of 100 beds and has a staff of 30 doctors, 22 nurses, and 20 health workers. It serves as the primary care facility for refugees seeking medical attention for various ailments including malaria, malnutrition, respiratory infections, diarrhea, skin diseases, and injuries.

Jowhar district hospital is located in Somalia. It was established in 2001 and it is the only hospital in the district. The hospital has a bed capacity of 200 beds, out of which only 30 are operational.

The hospital has 20 doctors and 30 nurses, who have to provide services to over 1 million people in the region. The hospital lacks essential facilities such as power generators, water pumps, and oxygen cylinders.

The Dhusamareb General Hospital is the largest hospital in central Somalia. It is located in the town of Dhusamareb, which is situated in a fertile agricultural area on the Shabelle River.

The hospital was established on November 27, 1969. It has more than 100 beds and receives patients from all over Somalia. The hospital provides services to both locals and foreigners alike.

It is staffed by doctors, nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals who offer general care services to people of all ages.
