The health care system in Grenada is based on the British National Health Service. The public health care system is financed by general taxation and provides free medical care to Grenadians and permanent residents.
The government of Grenada also operates a subsidized private health care system that provides free medical care to those who cannot afford it. This is funded by the government in partnership with the private sector.
Grenada has a relatively well-developed health infrastructure, but it lacks the resources necessary to provide good quality services for all its citizens. In 2000, there were only three doctors per 100,000 people and only one nurse per 100 people.
In 2007, there were 13 doctors per 100,000 people and 3 nurses per 100 people. In 2017, there were 17 doctors per 100,000 people and 4 nurses per 100 people.

The Medical School provides training to doctors from around the world in various fields of medicine such as surgery, anesthesiology or family medicine.
2.St. Martin’s Hospital:
The hospital is located on the south-west coast of Grenada in a suburb called St. Martin’s. The hospital is situated next to the Caribbean Sea and has been designed to have an area for patients who need to stay overnight.

3.Grenada General Hospital:
The Grenada General Hospital is a public hospital located in the capital of Grenada, St. George’s. It provides healthcare to the entire country and has a staff of around 1,200 people.

The hospital has an emergency room that provides 24-hour care. The ER is equipped with all the necessary equipment to treat any kind of emergency patient and offers services such as X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, MRI, and laboratory tests.
It also has a maternity ward where mothers can deliver their babies with qualified medical care from doctors and nurses.
Grenada General Hospital also offers other services such as general surgery, pediatrics (children), obstetrics (women), ophthalmology (eye), psychiatry (mental health) and dental care for patients who cannot afford it elsewhere.
4.St Andrew’s Anglican Church Hospital:
The Anglican Church Hospital in Grenada is a place where people come to get healed. It is the only hospital in the country that provides comprehensive healthcare services. The hospital has a number of facilities and amenities for its patients, including an emergency department, a pharmacy, an intensive care unit, and an operating theatre.

The Anglican Church Hospital was founded by Rev. George Selwyn who was appointed as the first Bishop of the Windward Islands in 1855. He purchased land from Ellen Douglas to build the hospital on which he also built his residence and church (the St Andrew’s Anglican Church).
The hospital was opened on 1 December 1857 with just two wards: one for men and one for women. The original building consisted of four rooms: two wards each with four beds, a surgery room with two beds, and a dispensary with one bed.
5.The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Grenada:
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is a public hospital in Grenada. It is the only hospital in Grenada that provides tertiary level healthcare services. The hospital provides a wide range of medical and surgical services to the people of Grenada and neighboring islands.

The hospital has an outpatient department, emergency room, intensive care unit, coronary care unit, surgical unit and an obstetrics and gynecology ward.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital also has facilities for laboratory diagnosis, radiology diagnosis, rehabilitation therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
It also houses a mental health facility with psychiatric wards for adults and children as well as a daycare center for children who are not able to stay with their parents at night due to their condition or age.
6.St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital:
Grenada is a small island country in the Caribbean with a population of about 110,000 people. It was once a British colony but it gained independence in 1974.

St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Grenada is located on the south coast of Grenada, near St George’s. The hospital offers free medical care to local residents who are unable to afford it themselves or have no other form of health insurance. Services include: General Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, Radiology and Laboratory Services. The hospital has been operational since 1975 and provides services to over 50% of the population in Grenada with approximately 20 beds available for use at any given time.
7.Princess Margret Children’s hospital :
For the past few years, the Princess Margret Children’s Hospital in Grenada has been experiencing a shortage of doctors. In order to address this problem, the hospital has been hiring more nurses and staff members. It also opened a new building with its own water supply and a generator that can power the entire hospital for up to 12 hours.

The hospital is also working on expanding its facilities by adding an additional building that will house an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as well as an Emergency Room (ER). These two additions are expected to be completed before the end of 2018.
8.British Military hospital:
The British Military Hospital in Grenada was established in 1796. It is located on the outskirts of Point Salines and has a total of 478 beds.

The hospital has facilities for medical, surgical, obstetric and gynaecological care, as well as dental and ophthalmic services.
The hospital also has a laboratory and radiology department, pharmacy and pathology laboratories.
It also has an operating theatre for major surgery, an intensive care unit for critical patients, and a high dependency unit for patients who need close monitoring but are not critically ill.
Additionally it houses the regional blood bank which serves all of the Eastern Caribbean islands.
9.King George V Memorial hospital:
The King George V Memorial Hospital has been in operation for more than 40 years. It is a public hospital that provides health care to the people of Grenada. The hospital has a total of 114 beds and is managed by the Ministry of Health, which also manages all public hospitals in Grenada.

The King George V Memorial Hospital offers various services to its patients, such as general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics and traumatology, ophthalmology, psychiatry and mental health services, pediatric care, emergency care and ambulance service.
The hospital also offers laboratory services through its Department of Pathology Services. In addition to these services, the hospital also provides dental care for children from low-income households through its Dental Care Unit.
10.Cornwall Regional hospital:
The Cornwall Regional hospital is a public hospital that is located in Grenada. It is the only hospital in Grenada that offers tertiary care.

The Cornwall Regional Hospital has a number of facilities and departments. These include the Emergency Department, Outpatient Clinics, Radiology Department, Surgical Services, and Medical Services. The hospital also has a number of wards and beds for patients to stay in while they are being treated.
The hospital was founded in 1978 by Dr. Ian Forbes-Smith who was then the Director General of Health Services for Grenada’s Ministry of Health at the time. The region had been without a hospital since Hurricane Ivan had hit in 2004 and destroyed the region’s previous hospital which was located on Carriacou Island.
11.San Fernando General hospital:
The San Fernando General Hospital is located in Grenada, a Caribbean island nation. The hospital is situated on a hill overlooking the town of St. George’s and the Caribbean Sea.

The Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital was founded in 1892 by the British colonial authorities with the goal to provide healthcare for people living in Grenada. The foundation stone was laid on July 4th of that year by Queen Victoria’s daughter Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia. The hospital was designed by British architect Sir William Emerson, who also designed other buildings in England like Buckingham Palace and the Foreign Office building at Whitehall.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital was established in 1887 as a small clinic for the British troops stationed on Grenada at that time; it was later renamed as “British Military Hospital”.
In 1939, this hospital was converted into a full-fledged civilian hospital and renamed as Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The Christie Hospital was founded by Dr. John Raine, who was one of the first physicians to practice on the island of Grenada after he finished his medical training at Guy’s Hospital in London. The hospital opened on March 3rd, 1825 with just four beds and three staff members to care for patients. The original building was made out of wood and was located behind the present site of the Ministry of Agriculture building on High Street in St George’s town square

The Princess Margaret Hospital was originally built to replace the old Royal Victoria Hospital which had been destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The construction of the hospital began in early 2005 and was completed in late 2006 for it to open its doors to patients in 2007.
