Panama’s health system is ranked as one of the best in Latin America with a life expectancy of 77 years, and a low infant mortality rate of 7 per 1,000 live births.

The country has achieved great progress in the past few decades. For instance, they have managed to reduce the number of people living below the poverty line to 8% from 40% back in the 1990s. The government has also invested heavily in education and healthcare systems which have helped them achieve this feat.

The Hospital Nacional de Panamá was founded on October 16th, 1887. The hospital has been through many changes to its facilities and locations since then. In its early days, it was located in San Felipe on Calle Central between Avenida Central and Avenida Eusebio A. Morales but later moved to Plaza Catedral where it remained for over 100 years until 2010 when it relocated to its current location on Avenida Cuba in Panama City.
