The General Hospital of Tuvalu, also known as the “Fuafuli” or “Funafuti” Hospital, was established in 1971 with funding from Australia. The hospital has been located at its present site since 1984 and is run by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services of Tuvalu.

The Maroondan Medical Centre has a total area of 1,000 square meters and it has an outpatient department with eight beds, emergency department with four beds, laboratory, pharmacy and dental clinic. The centre also has a well-equipped operating theatre that can run for two hours and it also has an emergency ambulance service.

The hospital is owned and operated by the government of Tuvalu. The current director of Nui Hospital is Dr. Tevita Fefoalagi.

The Nui Hospital has a total bed capacity of 16 beds, with 6 beds reserved for children below 1 year old and 8 beds for adults. The hospital also has an operating theatre that can accommodate up to 10 patients at a time, as well as a medical laboratory which can accommodate up to 12 patients at a time.

Lailai Health Centre is located on Lailai Island, which is home to the capital of Tuvalu – Funafuti. The island can be accessed by ferry from Fongafale or Nukulaelae.

The clinic is located in a small village called Nabou, which is about two kilometers from the capital of Funafuti. This location makes it difficult for people who live outside of Tuvalu to access the clinic, especially during bad weather.

The clinic offers general medical services, maternity and child care services, dental services and treatment of minor injuries. The Lagaifo Health Centre (Nabou) also provides medical consultation and treatment to people who are living outside of Tuvalu.

The hospital is divided into three wings: an accident and emergency ward, a general ward, and a maternity ward. The maternity ward includes four beds for single mothers, six beds for pregnant women, and six beds for babies who are less than one month old. There are also two rooms available for post-natal mothers with their babies who need to stay overnight. The maternity ward also has a nursery where infants can be cared for while their mother rests or receives treatment in the general ward.
