Rwanda is a country with a population of 13.6 million people and the health system has been ranked as the best in Africa. It is located in Central Africa, bordering Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The country has an estimated GDP per capita of $1,218.

The health system of Rwanda is largely state-funded with universal health coverage provided by a public insurance scheme called National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This scheme covers all citizens and foreigners living in Rwanda without exception. In addition to NHIS, there are private insurance schemes that cover some populations such as those with HIV/AIDS or who are employed outside the country.

Mainly due to its location in Central Africa, Rwanda has one of the lowest rates of HIV/AIDS.

2. Gisozi General Hospital:

Gisozi General Hospital is a public hospital in Rwanda that provides free health care to citizens.

Gisozi General Hospital is located in Gisozi, Rwanda. It has a total area of about 1,500 square meters and has three wards and one emergency ward. The hospital has its pharmacy and laboratory services. It also has a maternity ward with six beds, an obstetrics ward with ten beds, and an outpatient clinic.

The hospital provides health care to the people of the Gisozi district with the help of its doctors, nurses, and other staff members who work hard to make sure that everyone gets quality healthcare in this rural area of Rwanda.

3. University Teaching Hospital (UTH):

UTH is the only teaching hospital in Rwanda, and it provides services to Rwandans living in the country. It also provides medical care to refugees who have fled their homes due to conflict.

UTH is located in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. It has a total area of approximately 16 hectares with a capacity of 1,500 beds and a staff of around 3,000 people. The hospital has a range of facilities that include an outpatient clinic, emergency services, pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology department.

The teaching hospital offers treatment for common ailments such as pneumonia and tuberculosis as well as general surgery for major surgeries like heart bypasses or hip replacements.

4. Nyarugenge General Hospital:

Nyarugenge General Hospital is located in Kigali, Rwanda. It has a capacity of 1,500 beds and offers services such as emergency care, maternity care, surgery, and outpatient clinics. The hospital also offers a wide range of services in the areas of oncology and cardiology.

Nyarugenge General Hospital is one of the most modern hospitals in Rwanda with state-of-the-art facilities. It has a total area of 1,000 square meters and is equipped with an intensive care unit (ICU), an emergency room (ER), a maternity ward with a capacity for 50 beds, and 8 delivery rooms. The hospital also has an outpatient clinic that caters to patients from all over the country.

5. Gitarama General Hospital:

Gitarama General Hospital is a public hospital in Rwanda. It is located in the city of Gitarama and was founded in 1961 by the French government.

Gitarama General Hospital offers comprehensive services to its patients, including medical care, surgical care, and maternity care. It also offers dental care and outpatient services such as health education, nutrition counseling, and family planning.

The hospital has a capacity of 1,500 beds with 1,200 staff members. It provides healthcare for people from all over Rwanda as well as neighboring countries like Burundi and Uganda.

6. Nyamirambo General hospital:

Nyamirambo General hospital is located on the outskirts of the city of Kigali, Rwanda. It is a public hospital with a capacity to accommodate over 1,000 patients.

7. Rusizi hospital:

The Rusizi Hospital is located on the main road that connects Kigali to Gisenyi, about 17 kilometers from the Rwandan capital city. The hospital has a total area of 3,000 square meters and provides services to more than 600,000 patients every year.

The Rusizi Hospital has a total number of 10 wards with a capacity of 100 beds each and 20 operating theaters with an average capacity of 10 beds each. The hospital also houses a maternity ward with 20 beds for the care of expectant mothers and newborns, as well as a pediatric ward for children under 5 years old with 20 beds.

8. Kagame Hospital- Gisenyi, Rwanda:

Kagame Hospital is a hospital in Gisenyi, Rwanda. It was opened in 2005 and has a capacity of 1500 beds.

Kagame Hospital is located on the main road at the center of Gisenyi, Rwanda. The hospital has two entrances – one from the main road and another from Nyabugogo street. The hospital has a car park for patients and visitors with over 300 parking spaces and has a helipad for emergency evacuation.

9. Rubavu Government Hospital- Rubavu, Rwanda:

Rubavu Government Hospital is the central hospital of Rubavu, Rwanda. It is located on the main road between the cities of Kigali and Gisenyi.

Rubavu Government Hospital (RGH) has a total area of 3,500 square meters. It provides health services to all people living in Rubavu and its surrounding areas. RGH has a capacity of 100 beds and offers medical services such as general surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and dentistry.

The hospital also has an emergency room with a capacity for 40 patients at one time. The emergency room is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as ECG machines and cardiac monitors which are critical for detecting heart attacks.

10. Ijwi Government Hospital- Gisenyi, Rwanda:

Ijwi Government Hospital is a public hospital that provides healthcare services to Rwandans. It is located in Gisenyi, Rwanda.

Ijwi Government Hospital has a total of 556 beds and offers advanced tertiary-level services. The hospital also has an emergency department, an intensive care unit, and operating theaters. It is the largest hospital in Gisenyi with a total of 1,800 employees.

The Ijwi Government Hospital has been accredited by the Rwanda Accreditation Board since 2007 and by the WHO since 2009.

11. Catholic University Hospital:

Catholic University Hospital of Rwanda (CUTH) is a public hospital located in Kigali, Rwanda. It was established in 2003 and is the only teaching hospital operated by the Catholic Church in Rwanda.

The hospital provides healthcare to people who live in Kigali, and most of the neighboring provinces, and to patients from other countries who are referred by the Rwandan Ministry of Health.

The hospital has a total bed capacity of 556 beds, including orthopedic wards, obstetric wards, pediatric wards, and intensive care units.

12. Huye General Hospital:

Huye General Hospital is a public hospital in Rwanda, which serves the population of Huye District. It is located in the city of Huye, about 30 kilometers from Kigali.

The hospital was established in 1957 and is one of the largest hospitals in the country. It has 400 beds and provides treatment to more than 150,000 patients annually.

The hospital’s main entrance is on the opposite side of a busy street from its location on Avenue de l’Indépendance. The facility has three floors and an underground parking lot accessible via a tunnel under Avenue de l’Indépendance.

13. Muhima District Hospital:

Muhima District Hospital is located in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. It provides health care services to the residents of the Muhima district, a densely populated area in the capital city. It has two wings and a total capacity of 150 beds.

The hospital provides all kinds of medical care including general medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, and dental services. The hospital also offers laboratory tests and radiology services. It also has an emergency room with 24-hour coverage.

It has a total bed capacity of 200 beds and employs thirteen doctors, twenty nurses, two physiotherapists, two psychologists, four medical assistants, and one laboratory technician. The hospital offers radiology services such as X-ray, CT scan, and MRI scan to its patients as well as emergency medical care on-site. In addition to that, it also offers outpatient consultations with specialists from nearby hospitals who are willing to provide consultation services at the hospital.

15. Muhanga District Hospital:

Muhanga District Hospital is a public hospital in Rwanda. It is located in the capital city of Kigali, Rwanda. It provides health services to the people of Muhanga district and also other districts in Rwanda.

The Muhanga District Hospital has a total area of about 1,000 square meters and it has a capacity of about 100 beds.

The hospital has an emergency room, outpatient department, maternity ward, surgery wards with two operating theaters each, and an intensive care unit. The medical staff at the hospital includes doctors, nurses, and paramedics who provide health services to patients from all walks of life.

16. Buruli ulcer hospital:

The Buruli ulcer hospital is a state-of-the-art facility that provides care for patients with Buruli ulcers. It also provides education and research to the health community.

Buruli ulcer is a rare, infectious tropical skin disease caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans, which infects the skin of humans and other animals, including cattle, dogs, cats, and monkeys. The disease is caused by direct contact with infected soil or water contaminated with feces or urine from an infected animal.

The hospital was established in 2009 by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Rwanda as a referral center for patients referred from across Rwanda’s provinces. It has been recognized as one of the leading centers in Africa for the treatment of Buruli ulcers.

17. Drancy Hospital, Kigali:

Drancy Hospital is a leading hospital in Kigali, Rwanda. It was founded in 1969 by the French government.

The hospital is located in the southern part of the city. The building is characterized by its modern architecture and green surroundings.

The hospital has 4 floors and it currently has 10 beds. It also has an emergency room, a maternity ward, and a pharmacy on site.

18. Our Lady of Nyamirambo Hospital,

Our Lady of Nyamirambo Hospital is a hospital in the Rwandan capital, Kigali. It was founded in 1925 by the Missionaries of Africa.

The hospital has a total of 1,950 beds and provides health care services to people in Rwanda and neighboring countries. It has been accredited by the Rwanda Ministry of Health since 2003.

Musanze District Hospital is a public hospital in the Musanze District of Rwanda.

The Musanze District Hospital is located in Musanze, Rwanda. It was established on 1st January 2010 and it is the first district hospital in the country.

The hospital has a total of 33 beds and its services range from general medicine to surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and rehabilitation services. The hospital also provides outpatient services for cancer treatment, cardiology, and neurology.

20. Nyanza Provincial Hospital:

The Nyanza Provincial Hospital of Rwanda is a public hospital in the capital city of Kigali. It was established in 2008 and has a capacity of approximately 500 beds.

The Nyanza Provincial Hospital is located on the outskirts of the city, just outside Kacyiru, which is about 3 kilometers from downtown. The hospital has a total area of about 17 hectares and consists of three buildings, including a maternity ward and an outpatient department. The hospital also has an emergency room with X-ray facilities, laboratory services, and clinics for internal medicine and pediatrics.
