The Vatican city is a small country located in the middle of Rome, Italy. It is the smallest country in the world with a population of around 800 people. Vatican City covers an area of 44 hectares and has its laws, rules, and currency. The Vatican health system is managed by the Holy See which provides health care to all citizens and residents of the Vatican City.

In 1836, Pope Gregory XVI established a pontifical commission to undertake reform of the health system in the city. In 1847, Pope Pius IX founded an independent hospital that was staffed by doctors from various parts of Europe and America who were Catholic priests or nuns. The current Health System consists of three hospitals: Bambino Gesú Children’s Hospital, Santa Marta Hospital for Advanced Medicine, and Regina Apost.

Facilities: Bambino Gesù Hospital has a total of 686 beds, of which 596 are for children aged 0-18 years old. There are also 3 operating theaters, 4 intensive care units, 2 neonatal intensive care units, a pediatric emergency unit, an oncology center, and a maternity ward.

Location: The hospital is located in Vatican City and it’s close to St Peter’s Basilica. It’s just a few blocks away from Saint Peter’s Square and it takes about 15 minutes to get there from Piazza San.

The Santo Spirito Hospital has a total area of 1.6 hectares and consists of three buildings, with the main building being located at Via Della Lungara 9, the central building situated at Via di Sant’Anna 12, and the children’s pavilion on Via di Sant’Anna 8.

Santo Spirito Hospital was built by Pope Sixtus V in 1585 to serve as a hospital for pilgrims visiting Rome. The hospital was named after Saint Lawrence, who was martyred in 258 AD and later canonized as Saint Lawrence of Rome.

The hospital has a total of 11 floors and 1,500 beds. The first floor is mostly occupied by the emergency room, while the other floors are mostly occupied by wards. The hospital also has a pediatric ward, a psychiatric ward, a geriatric ward, and an obstetric ward.

Gemelli Hospital is located in one of Rome’s most beautiful areas – Borgo Pio.

The San Camillo de Lellis Hospital is situated on Janiculum Hill, which has been for centuries a privileged spot for Rome’s most prestigious families. The ancient Roman city of Lavinium was built here and it was also later called “Lavinium” by Emperor Augustus.

1. The Santo Spirito-Lungs Disease and Respiratory Medicine department includes seven operating rooms, two intensive care units,

2. A cardiothoracic intensive care unit, an emergency room, an outpatient department for pulmonary diseases (including cystic fibrosis),

3. A radiotherapy unit, an endoscopy unit with surgical capacity. The Santo Spirito-Lungs Disease and Respiratory Medicine Department also include one specialized ward for children.

The Santissima Annunziata complex is composed of four different buildings: the main building, the children’s hospital, the old people’s hospital, and the maternity home.

The hospital was established in 1869 and named after Girolamo Riario Sforza. This was after he donated his family palace to be used as a hospital for poor people who suffer from mental illnesses and epilepsy.

It has been an important part of the healthcare system in Vatican City since then. It has been working with other hospitals to provide care for patients who come from outside of Vatican City.
